Z-Medica Corporation, a medical device company developing innovative hemostatic agents, today announced that it has signed exclusive distribution agreements with Vingmed AB and Mediplast AB, two leading Swedish medical device distributors, for distribution of its QuikClot line of hemostatic agents in Sweden, Denmark and Norway for the first time.
Concussions can occur in sports and in combat, but health experts do not know precisely which jolts, collisions and awkward head movements during these activities pose the greatest risks to the brain. To find out, Johns Hopkins engineers have developed a powerful new computer-based process that helps identify the dangerous conditions that lead to concussion-related brain injuries.
A daily dose of a specific form of vitamin E significantly improved the liver disease, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, according to a study funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of Health. Results were published April 28 online in the New England Journal of Medicine.
Carissa Perez Olsen, Ph.D., a Weintraub Scholar in the Basic Sciences Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, is the recipient of the National Institutes of Health Director's Early Independence Award, announced today. She is among the first group of 10 junior U.S. investigators to receive the honor.
