One of the world's largest tobacco companies, British American Tobacco (BAT), is apparently about to launch a so-called "safer" cigarette.
The Healthy San Francisco program has prompted some employers to increase prices and hire fewer new employees but also is "showing early signs of doing what it was intended to do: push employers to defray medical costs for more workers," the Wall Street Journal reports (Dvorak, Wall Street Journal, 5/5).
While botulinum toxin is commonly known as a cosmetic treatment for facial lines and wrinkles, a growing body of evidence suggests that "Botox" can also be an effective treatment for certain sports injuries and chronic pain conditions, according to a review in the June issue of Current Sports Medicine Reports, official journal of the American College of Sports Medicine.
The Washington Post: Families insured by the military's Tricare program will not be able to keep children on their plans until age 26, like Americans covered by most civilian policies, under the new health law. Before the overhaul passed, military families were assured that the legislation would not "negatively impact" Tricare and the program was left untouched.
Among a large number of Chinese men presenting with chest pain or EKG changes, sequential subjects undergoing cardiac angiography were evaluated for obstructive coronary artery disease lesions according to their reported recent alcohol intake. The study population consisted of 1,476 consecutive men 36 to 84 years of age; participants were categorized as nondrinkers, light drinkers, moderate drinkers, or heavy drinkers.
