The lack of accountability, poor communication and insufficient planning plaguing the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic - especially in its early months - have roots in how the nation responded to 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and the H1N1 swine flu, a new study involving the University of Washington found.
The findings are based on an analysis of hospital treatment statistics in England between 1991 and 2000. The number of first time hip replacements increased by 18% during this period, while the need to revise the procedure more than doubled.
The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) is pleased to announce David A. Axelson, M.D, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and Director, Child and Adolescent Bipolar Services, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, as the recipient of the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation Award for Research in Depression or Suicide for his paper, "Course of Subthreshold Bipolar Disorder in Youth: Diagnostic Progression From Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified," published in the October 2011 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
A new comprehensive analysis on the effect of Mozart's music on epilepsy has confirmed that listening to his piano music can reduce the frequency of epilepsy attacks.
Results of a new study conducted in St. Petersburg, Russia, show that decreasing HIV transmission among Russian HIV-infected drinkers will require creative and innovative approaches.
