The University of Pennsylvania Upstart Program announces TransCare Partners LLC to broaden the use of the Transitional Care Model developed at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. The Model, developed over 20 years by Dr Mary Naylor, has been clinically proven to reduce hospital re- admissions by up to 30% while producing substantial savings for hospitals and Medicare.
A new survey of child psychiatrists indicates that insomnia is a major problem among children in mental health treatment and at least a quarter of these patients are given sleep medication. The results of the survey, conducted by Judith Owens, MD, a sleep expert with Hasbro Children's Hospital, and colleagues, suggests that management of insomnia in this population is a common practice, although the clinical approach varies widely. The study is published in the August 2010 edition of Sleep Medicine.
Results from a pre-clinical study show that the gene designated Bcl-6 is an oncogene - that is, one with the potential to cause a normal cell to become cancerous - but that certain peptide inhibitors can in effect inactivate it, according to a study to be presented today during the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
