PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader focused on the health and safety of people and the environment, today announced that its family cord blood banking business, ViaCord, has released its 200th umbilical cord blood stem cell unit for treatment purposes. The 200th unit will be used in a clinical trial intended to treat cerebral palsy with a re-infusion of a child's own umbilical cord stem cells.
During cancer metastasis, immune response or the development of organisms, cells are moving in a controlled manner through the body. Researchers from the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel discovered novel mechanisms of cell migration by observing cells moving on lines of connective tissue.
"More than half a million people in northern Mali, occupied by Islamist fighters, need aid to cope with rising food prices, collapsed public services and a lack of health care, the International Committee of the Red Cross said on Thursday," Reuters reports.
