Chief judge of the US District Court for the District of Columbia Royce Lamberth has ruled on the case Sherley et al. v. Sebelius, in favor of hESC research. Acceleron, Celgene to give oral presentations on beta-thalassemia, myelodysplastic syndromes at EHA meeting

Acceleron Pharma Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery, development and commercialization of novel protein therapeutics for cancer and rare diseases, today reported that Acceleron, Celgene and investigators in the sotatercept and ACE-536 phase 2 clinical trials will give three oral presentations of interim data from ongoing studies in beta-thalassemia and myelodysplastic syndromes as well as a poster presentation of nonclinical data in sickle cell disease at the 19th Annual Congress of the European Hematology Association (EHA) in Milan, Italy from June 12-15, 2014.

Findings may result in better management of chronic depression

Virginia Commonwealth University has received a $3 million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health to study key molecular markers found in DNA that predict chronic depression.

Living Cell Technologies Limited, a company pioneering the development of a cell implant to treat diabetes, has obtained approval to commence a Phase II DIABECELL clinical trial in Buenos Aires, Argentina, DIABECELL's third jurisdiction to date which has approved human trials. Up to eight adult patients with Type 1 diabetes, including those with unstable diabetes and severe hypoglycaemia, will each receive two implants of DIABECELL, three months apart with a dose seeking component. The trial is expected to begin in the second half of this year.
