Adventist Medical Center (AMC), a not-for-profit, faith-based health system operating a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services in the Portland, Ore., and Vancouver, Wash., areas, has saved more than 120 tons (239,075 lbs.) of paper through shredding and recycling during the past 12 months.
Bionomics Limited, a biopharmaceutical company focused on the discovery and development of innovative therapeutics for the treatment of diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) and cancer, today announced that it has extended its strategic collaboration with Merck & Co., Inc., Kenilworth NJ., (known as MSD outside the United States and Canada) for the discovery and development of drug candidates for the treatment of chronic and neuropathic pain.
The technology, consisting of a designed variant of a natural occurring protein called super albumin, can pave the way for the development of long-acting drugs. This can have major implications for individuals suffering from hemophilia.
During its September Spotlight on Malnutrition, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will raise awareness of malnutrition, promote the crucial role of registered dietitian nutritionists in identifying and treating this serious medical condition, and provide educational resources for the public and Academy members.
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company and Pfizer report that preliminary results from the Phase 3 AVERROES clinical trial of the investigational drug apixaban compared with acetylsalicylic acid (ASA, or aspirin) in patients with atrial fibrillation expected to be or demonstrated to be unsuitable for warfarin therapy will be presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2010. The results will be presented during the "Hot Line" session on August 31, 2010, in Stockholm, Sweden.
