Scripps Howard News Service/The (Montgomery County, Pa.) Times Herald: "Federal officials of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced this month they will consider proposals from advocacy, labor and student groups that contend work-hour rules proposed by an accreditation council's task force don't go far enough. They're pushing for new caps [on how long medical residents can work] including: No more than 80 hours in any week, compared to current standards that allow for an average of 80 hours.
Thick gravel, mud, snow, steep ramps or hills . . . They might get a pedestrian a little dirty or out of breath, but to someone in an electric wheelchair, they could mean terrain that's simply too difficult to cross alone. To address this problem, researchers at the Florida A&M University-Florida State University College of Engineering are working on technology that will enable electric-powered wheelchairs to detect hazardous terrain and automatically adjust their control settings to maneuver more safely.
Results of a new study found people age 65 or older who drank tea regularly had 17-37% less cognitive decline compared with people who did not drink tea. The new findings were presented here at the Alzheimer's Association's International Conference on Alzheimer's Disease 2010.
Getting a complete grasp of this demographic's sign-up rate is difficult, however, because almost a third of those who signed up did not report or specify their race or ethnicity.
