Scientists from Queen Mary University of London and UCL (University College London) have identified what they believe could be a cause of pre-term premature rupture of the fetal membrane (PPROM), which accounts for 40 per cent of pre-term births, and is the main reason for infant death world-wide.
There have been conflicting reports on health benefits and harm caused by drinking alcohol. A new study from Japanese researchers has proven that taking one drink a day for a decade or two drinks for five years can raise the risk of getting cancers by 5 percent. The study titled "Light to moderate amount of lifetime alcohol consumption and risk of cancer in Japan," was published in the latest issue of the journal Cancer.
Quintiles today announced a strategic alliance with leading global pharmaceutical company Eisai Co., Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan) to develop six potential oncology products in Eisai's R&D pipeline. Under the terms of the agreement, Quintiles' oncology experts will conduct Phase II proof-of-concept studies for 11 solid tumor indications. A key goal of the alliance is to determine the efficacy of the products in the shortest possible time in order to bring therapies to market faster for the benefit of cancer patients worldwide.
Researchers have successfully managed to develop "mini placentas" or placenta organoids in the laboratories that could transform research of pregnancy, conception, stillbirth, miscarriages and pregnancy diseases and disorders.
Mayo Clinic physicians have adapted real-time 3-D ultrasound imaging devices - including one designed to look at an infant's heart - so that they can watch as they use a needle filled with anesthetic to numb individual nerves located inches under the skin.
