According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 3,450 drivers are killed each year from distracted driving. M. Kit Delgado, MD, MS, an assistant professor of Emergency Medicine and Epidemiology in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and an associate fellow at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and a team from Penn and CHOP have received a major grant from the Federal Highway Administration, an agency within the United States Department of Transportation, to help curb distracted driving.
The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the National Institutes of Health has awarded a five-year grant of $15.6 million to Karina Yazdanbakhsh, PhD, of New York Blood Center's Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, to lead a collaborative research program studying the consequences of transfusions in patients with sickle cell disease and developing strategies to optimize transfusion management for this patient group.
Regularly drinking alcohol, particularly in higher quantities, appears to increase the risk for developing psoriasis, the results of a Chinese study suggest.
Medical Properties Trust, Inc. and MPT Operating Partnership, L.P. today announced the expiration and final results of the previously announced cash tender offer to purchase any and all of the outstanding 9.25% Exchangeable Senior Notes due 2013 (CUSIP Number 55342NAG5) issued by the Operating Partnership at a purchase price of $1,185.29 for each $1,000 principal amount of the exchangeable notes purchased pursuant to the tender offer, plus accrued and unpaid interest to, but not including, the date of payment.
