The anti-inflammatory drug Celebrex, or celecoxib, reduces tumor mass by encouraging cell death and discouraging both cell proliferation and the sprouting of new blood vessels that feed growing tumors, according to a study reported in the November issue of Molecular Cancer Research.
Cornell University scientists have developed a rapid, less costly and sensitive new technique for detecting group A streptococcus, the bacteria that cause scarlet fever. Details will be announced today at the Institute of Food Technologists Annual Meeting and Food Expo in New Orleans.
Researchers working on COVID-19 therapy with plasma from convalescent patients have found that it is safe and effective and improves the chances of survival among those who are severely ill. The new study titled, "Safety Update: COVID-19 Convalescent Plasma in 20,000 Hospitalized Patients," is published as a preprint for the journal Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
The bacterium that causes a highly contagious and sometimes deadly form of diarrhea is frequently carried by persons who do not have any of the disease symptoms, according to a study in the Oct. 15 issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases, now available online.
