Metabolon, Inc., the leader in metabolomics, biomarker discovery and analysis, announces the publication of "Novel Role of Adenosine Signaling in Sickle Cell Disease", in Nature Medicine. Application of non-targeted biochemical profiling (metabolomics) to a mouse model of sickle cell disease (SCD) revealed a detrimental role of adenosine signaling in SCD and suggested novel therapeutic targets. The study was carried out in collaboration with The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Oxygen Biotherapeutics, Inc. today announced it has amended an existing Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) to include preclinical trials using swine models to assess the safety and efficacy of Oxygen Biotherapeutics' proprietary Oxycyte perfluorocarbon emulsion (PFCE) for spinal cord injury (SCI) due to decompression sickness (DCS), and for hemorrhagic shock.
Patients with sickle cell disease average about 2.5 hospital visits per year, with 18- to 30-year old patients more likely to require acute care or rehospitalization, according to a study in the April 7 issue of JAMA.
Achieving effective, durable, and safe pain relief, especially in patients with chronic and/or severe pain conditions, can be difficult.
The agreement, announced Thursday by Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., gives authority to the acting VA chief to fire senior officials and to allow veterans who have experienced long waits or who live further than 40 miles from a VA facility to seek care elsewhere. If passed by both houses, the bill would also authorize VA to spend $500 million hiring new doctors and nurses.
