Takeda Global Research & Development Center, Inc., (Takeda) and H. Researchers from Rhode Island Hospital have identified a protein that plays a dual role in the liver during sepsis. The protein, known as RIP1, acts both as a "death switch" and as a pro-survival mechanism. The ability to identify the triggers for these functions may play a key role in treating sepsis in the future. The study is published online in advance of print in the journal Shock.
Neurosurgeons and neuroradiologists at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center injected a biosynthetic "glue" to seal off a spinal fluid leak and restore a comatose patient to consciousness.
Results from a five-year study of treatment-naïve patients with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) demonstrated that patients treated with COPAXONE (glatiramer acetate injection) showed significant reduced loss of brain volume compared to patients treated with other disease modifying therapies.
