Hyperion Therapeutics today announced that the first patient has been enrolled in a clinical trial of investigational compound HPN-100 (glycerol phenylbutyrate) in children ages 6-17 with urea cycle disorders (UCD). PBA causes involuntary and unpredictable outbursts of laughing or crying, often in socially inappropriate situations. Even though a significant proportion of stroke survivors suffer from PBA, fewer than one in five are familiar with the condition.
