Top international health authorities are urging new efforts to bolster disease surveillance in the Americas, saying that small and poorer countries in the region have limited ability to detect, assess and report on disease outbreaks that could spread beyond their borders.
The research was part of the Platelet-Oriented Inhibition in New TIA and minor ischemic stroke trial - a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial conducted between May 2010 and December 2017.
Treating a stubborn blood disease that strikes children may come down to tweaking energy production in stem cells, suggests research out of West Virginia University.
In an effort to ensure that Pennsylvania's citizens are protected against the H1N1 flu virus, the Department of Health will continue public vaccination clinics at all 60 state health centers every Saturday through Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Researchers at Penn Medicine have identified more genetic mutations that strongly predispose younger, otherwise healthy women to peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM), a rare condition characterized by weakness of the heart muscle that begins sometime during the final month of pregnancy through five months after delivery.
