For many people, hearing loss is part of aging. Hearing loss affects approximately one-third of people over age 65. Among people age 75 and older, 40 percent to 50 percent experience hearing loss.
Lutonix today announced the first patient enrolled in the LEVANT 2 clinical trial, a global, multicenter, randomized trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of the Moxy™ Drug Coated Balloon compared to a standard angioplasty balloon for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The first case was performed at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL by Dr. Jeff Goldstein.
New research led by Le Cong of Stanford University School of Medicine in California indicates that the KCNA6 potassium channel may help with viral entry and promote infection. In addition, KCNA6 is highly expressed in OLIG2+ neuronal cells, which has been shown to be suspectable to SARS-CoV-2 in the olfactory neuroepithelium. This area appears to contribute to loss of smell commonly observed during infection.
