When it comes to breast cancer screening, the density of your breasts affects how well a mammogram can detect cancerous tissues. That's why Pennsylvania and 20 other states have adopted laws requiring radiologists to include information about breast density in every woman's mammogram report.
Professor William Gallagher, a leading cancer biology researcher in UCD's School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science, was today presented with the NovaUCD 2011 Innovation Award.
Reuters/ABC News reports on research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association that examined the misuse of two blood thinners - Lovenox and Integrilin - in "about 20 percent of kidney dialysis patients who undergo a procedure to open a blocked artery [who] are given the wrong blood clot medicine, increasing the chances of significant bleeding, researchers said Tuesday.
"Participants at the Fifth International Parliamentarians' Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) ended a two-day meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, on Friday with a joint pledge to advocate for increased funding for full implementation of the decades-old ICPD Programme of Action," Inter Press Service reports.
