A solution to the problem of creating endocytosis on demand is being compared to 'hotwiring' a car. A team at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, has managed to trigger clathrin-mediated endocytosis in the lab. They did it by using a chemical rapamycin which diffuses in to the cell allowing them to trigger endocytosis to occur all over the cell.
BioMedix, a leader in providing integrated Health Information Technology (HIT) products and services, has been awarded a U.S. Patent recognizing its innovative solutions and methods for detecting and managing cardiovascular disease.
The Associated Press examines why the United States is "the only wealthy industrialized nation that does not have universal health coverage.
Though the global economic crisis has slowed the pace of efforts to reduce poverty in developing countries, the countries remain "on track" to meet the Millennium Development Goal target to halve extreme poverty by 2015, according to a report released Friday by the World Bank and IMF, Agence France-Presse reports (4/26).
A research group at Umeå University in Sweden, together with researchers in Munich, have identified two enzymes from the pathogenic Legionella bacteria that are very useful in chemically modifying proteins to be used in medical drugs. The result of the study is presented in the chemical journal Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
