Researchers across the world are working toward biocompatibility by optimizing interactions that occur between implanted biomaterials and the host living tissue.
In a multicenter, randomized clinical trial, ex-prisoners who received six monthly injections of naltrexone-a long-acting medication that blocks opioid receptors in the brain-were significantly less likely to resume opioid use than those who received counseling and referrals to community treatment centers without naltrexone.

It shares extensive common gene sequences with p53 and, as suggested by some previous studies, it may function similar to p53 to prevent tumor formation.
Recently developed MRI techniques used to more precisely target a small area in the brain linked to Parkinson's disease and essential tremor may lead to better outcomes without surgery and with less risk of negative effects, a new study led by UT Southwestern researchers suggests.
