Changing to a healthier lifestyle appears to be at least as effective as taking prescription drugs in reducing the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, says a new British Medical Journal study.
A team of Spanish scientists, which includes several researchers from the University of Granada, has confirmed that there is a relation between the levels of certain environmental pollutants that a person accumulates in his or her body and their level of obesity. Subjects with more pollutants in their organisms present besides higher levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, which are important risk factors for cardiovascular disease.
A study of more than 300,000 individuals in Denmark, presented at this year's European Congress on Obesity in Glasgow, Scotland, reveals that heavier and taller children are at greater risk than their average-sized peers of developing renal cell carcinoma as adults.
Mast Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company leveraging its molecular adhesion and sealant technology (MAST) platform to develop novel therapies for sickle cell disease, heart failure, and stroke, announced that it has initiated its Phase 2 study of vepoloxamer for the treatment of patients with chronic heart failure.
