MIPA launches campaign to educate consumers save money on prescription medications

The Massachusetts Independent Pharmacists Association today announced the kickoff of a campaign aimed at educating consumers about a proposal to help save money on prescription medications. MIPA was joined by patient groups, pharmacists, and lawmakers at a Boston pharmacy, Tremont Drug, to highlight the fact that Massachusetts is the only state in the nation that bans the use of manufacturer discounts and co-pay assistance programs for the purchase of prescription drugs.

Loneliness in Parkinson's disease may increase risk for symptom severity

Research from UCLA scientists and colleagues from other institutions finds that people with Parkinson's disease who lack meaningful social interactions may be at an increased risk for severe symptoms related to the disease.

Sandia National Laboratories awards equipment contract to Arrayit Corporation

Arrayit Corporation (OTCBB: ARYC), a proprietary life sciences and nanotechnology technology leader, announces that on September 11th, 2009 Arrayit delivered its proprietary nanotechnology platform to Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Cholera can be controlled with oral vaccines

Endemic cholera, a potentially fatal diarrheal disease found in the world's most impoverished countries, could be effectively controlled by orally vaccinating half of the affected populations once every two years for only pennies per dose, according to new findings by an international team of researchers led by Ira M. Longini Jr., Ph.D., a biostatistician in the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. Longini and colleagues will report their findings online Nov. 27 in PLoS Medicine.

Researchers revisit Charcot's vibration therapy for Parkinson's disease

In the 19th century, Jean-Martin Charcot, the celebrated neurologist, developed a "vibration chair," to relieve symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Charcot reported improvements in his patients, but he died shortly thereafter and a more complete evaluation of the therapy was never conducted.
