How do applied psychologists use psychological theory to understand the people they work with? People who use mental health services are familiar with the term diagnosis, but less so with the term formulation. Formulation is the approach applied psychologists use to help people in distress to develop an understanding of why they think, feel and behave the way they do.
Driving new technologies that will help expand the availability of MRI scanners beyond the hospital to smaller clinic settings, GE Global Research, the technology development arm for the General Electric Company, and Mayo Clinic, have received a five-year, $5.7 million grant from the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), components of the National Institutes of Health.
KAI Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held drug discovery and development company, today announced clinical and preclinical data from its lead program, KAI-4169, at the Endocrine Society's 93rd Annual Meeting (ENDO 2011) taking place in Boston, June 4-7, 2011. KAI-4169 is a novel pharmaceutical agent being developed for the treatment of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD).
Noting the U.N. Commission on Life-Saving Commodities for Women and Children on Wednesday "released 10 bold recommendations which, if achieved, will ensure women and children will have access to 13 life-saving commodities," Jennifer Bergeson-Lockwood, a maternal health adviser with USAID, writes in USAID's "IMPACTblog" that the agency is working "to integrate systems across commodities to better and more efficiently serve women and children everywhere, and scale up programs to have nation-wide impact."
A new study led by researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) identifies how genes are silenced in cancer cells through distinct changes in the density of nucleosomes within the cells.
