The Kidney Care Council (KCC), a nonprofit national health care association composed of leading kidney dialysis provider companies who care for a majority of ESRD patients nationwide, released new data today revealing that 98 percent of kidney care providers participating in a recent study have opted to participate in the new Medicare "bundled" payment system in January 2011, more than twice the rate originally anticipated.
The Food and Drug administration on Thursday revoked its approval of Roche drug Avastin for the treatment of breast cancer. The agency's action, based on findings that did not confirm that the medicine helped patients with this disease, has drawn criticism from patients and politicians.
Initial 2012 reimbursement rates for Medicare Advantage plans should be roughly flat, which tops the consensus expectation of a 2 percent drop, according to Citi analyst Carl McDonald. A new report from American Cancer Society researchers finds that despite declining death rates, cancer has surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of death among Hispanics in the U.S. In 2009, the most recent year for which actual data are available, 29,935 people of Hispanic origin in the U.S. died of cancer, compared to 29,611 deaths from heart disease.
