The Orlando Sentinel: Although regional plans to wire doctors' offices have circulated for some time, "this promises to be the year doctors go digital, allowing them to share patients' medical histories or pull up diagnostic test results with the click of a mouse. Health care experts predict it will be one of the biggest health care developments of 2010." Stimulus grants and incentives to get doctors and hospitals to go digital may push the earlier plans and pilot projects to fruition (Quintero, 1/8).
The brain processes information using both slow and fast currents. Until now, researchers had to use electrodes placed inside the brain in order to measure the latter.
Nektar Therapeutics reported partner AstraZeneca today announced that MOVENTIG (naloxegol) has been granted Marketing Authorisation by the European Commission for the treatment of opioid-induced constipation (OIC) in adult patients who have had an inadequate response to laxative(s).
A new eight year long European study concludes that salt consumption is not dangerous and may in fact be beneficial. This is certainly contrary to advice from American Medical Association, American Heart Association and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, which says higher sodium consumption can increase the risk of heart disease.
A new discovery at the University of Queensland could help reduce heart disease and boost nutrition security - the access to balanced nourishment - globally.
