Haemacure Corporation announces that it has today obtained a first extension until March 22, 2010 of the delay within which to make a proposal pursuant to the notice of intention to make a proposal to its creditors it filed on January 8, 2010 under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (Canada). This extension is intended to allow Haemacure to complete a call for tenders for the sale of its assets, close a sale transaction with the successful tenderer, seek the required approvals for the transaction and proposal to creditors, and execute the proposal.
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine have discovered a steroid hormone that inhibits inflammation in the brain. The findings, to be published in the May 13 issue of the journal Cell, have implications for understanding the exaggerated inflammatory responses that are characteristic features of numerous neurodegenerative diseases.
Health officials in Canada have reported that there have been two deaths related to the West Nile Virus, the first for three years in Canada's largest city, Toronto.
Individuals at extremely high risk of developing psychosis appear less likely to develop psychotic disorders following a 12-week course of fish oil capsules containing long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, according to a report in the February issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Professor Hermann Brenner and colleagues analyzed the data of 8.807 individuals aged between 50 and 74 years using data of Saarland citizens. "We were able to show that the risk of smokers for cardiovascular diseases is more than twice that of non-smokers. However, former smokers are affected at almost the same low rate as people of the same age who never smoked," says Brenner.
