Santarus, Inc., a specialty biopharmaceutical company, today announced the publication of an integrated analysis of two randomized placebo-controlled clinical trials with RHUCIN (recombinant human C1 inhibitor, or rhC1INH), in the October issue of the peer reviewed Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JACI).

According to a latest study many medical devices recalled in recent years by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) because they posed a high risk to patients were not rigorously studied before being approved for patient use. The study, appearing on the web site of The Archives of Internal Medicine, said that most medical devices that were the subject of high-risk recalls from 2005 to 2009 had been cleared through a regulatory pathway with little testing. This included external heart defibrillators, hospital infusion pumps and mechanical ventilators.
According to a new study in American Journal of Transplantation, kidney transplant patients suffering from anemia, a treatable blood deficiency, are more likely to die or suffer from organ failure than other transplant recipients.
Almost two-thirds of non-diabetic patients with Parkinson's disease may be insulin resistant, despite having normal blood sugar, report scientists in the Journal of Parkinson's Disease.
