A novel hand-held, noninvasive monitoring device that uses multilayer nanotechnology to detect acetone has been shown to correlate with blood-glucose levels in the breath of diabetics. This research is being presented at the 2013 American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Annual Meeting and Exposition, the world's largest pharmaceutical sciences meeting, in San Antonio, Nov. 10-14.
Recently, some scientists have suggested that medical injections with contaminated needles were an important, but ignored, factor in the spread of HIV across sub-Saharan Africa. However, research published today in Public Library of Science Medicine shows that injections with dirty needles are not a major source of HIV transmission in rural Zimbabwe.
APP Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Fresenius Kabi Pharmaceuticals Holding, Inc., announced today that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market preservative-free Heparin Lock Flush Solution, USP in two dosage strengths, 10 USP Units/1 mL and 100 USP Units/1 mL, and will soon launch these single dose vial presentations.
A vast majority of employers anticipate that, if enacted, health care reform will lead to higher health care costs and weaken their role in providing coverage to workers, according to a new poll by Watson Wyatt, a leading global consulting firm.
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue given alongside growth hormone during puberty in order to increase adult height does not have long-term metabolic health consequences in children born small for gestational age, research shows.
