Leica Biosystems announces the launch of the fourth Novocastra HD menu, focused on hematopathology. Previously launched were the Novocastra HD menus for breast, head & neck and dermatopathology.
The Medical College of Wisconsin (Medical College), a private medical school with more than 1,100 physicians, in Milwaukee, WI, has selected the Quantros Safety and Risk Management (SRM) solution to track, manage and report adverse and near-miss events, as well as to manage the entire claims process. The Quantros Event Manager (EM) and Claims Manager (CM) modules, part of the SRM solution, were chosen from among seven different vendors.
Inner cities as well as suburbs show distinctly warmer temperatures-known as the urban heat island effect-than rural areas as a result of land use and human activities, which can affect rainfall, air quality and public health.
NPR reports the budget office's use of pedometers to encourage employees to do more physical activity exemplifies "the Obama administration [reliance] on intensive data-gathering to help mold behavior." Peter Orszag, director of the Office of Management and Budget, says "'[w]hen you measure something and have a competition surrounding it, it creates a strong incentive to do more of it.' … Whether it's health care, education or even the war in Afghanistan, the president and his team are big believers in the power of information."
Emergency medical technicians (EMTs), military medics, and emergency room physicians could one day be better able to treat victims of vehicular accidents, gunshot wounds, and battlefield injuries thanks to a new device under development that may more accurately assess the effects of blood loss due to hemorrhage.
