Parkinson's Disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder. In Germany alone, almost half a million people are affected. The focus of the disease is the progressive degeneration of dopamine-producing nerve cells in a certain region of the midbrain, the substantia nigra. Misfolded proteins are the cause. A team of researchers from the University of Sydney has developed an innovative new method to analyse digital photographs of faces in order to determine an individual's risk of developing Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).
In patients with non-small-cell lung cancer, rare epidermal growth factor receptor mutations are associated with a poorer response to EGFR–tyrosine kinase inhibitors compared with frequently occurring ones, according to a study published in Lung Cancer.
