LongROAD project launched to improve safety and mobility needs of older adults

In the coming decades, the population of older adults in the United States will reach unprecedented numbers. By the year 2029, more than one in five Americans will be over the age of 65. And most of them will continue driving. To understand their safety and mobility needs, the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety has launched a five-year, $12 million Longitudinal Research on Aging Drivers (LongROAD) project with Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health and six other institutions.

MR spectroscopy of choline levels shows promise as a marker of fetal lung maturity

The researchers performed high resolution MRS on 15 amniotic fluid samples for evaluation of fetal lung maturity between 34 and 40 weeks gestation and were analyzed using trimethysilylpropionic acid (TSP) as a reference standard.

New antisense drugs may help treat accidental infections: Study

New studies show that treatments targeting specific viral genes protected monkeys infected with deadly Ebola or Marburg viruses. Furthermore, the animals were protected even when therapeutics were administered one hour after exposure-suggesting the approach holds promise for treating accidental infections in laboratory or hospital settings.
