In today's headlines, a report about how the timing of the Supreme Court's health law review is in play - will it happen before or after the 2012 election?
A gut bacterium called Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes), which is often found in soft cheese, is known to present a risk to pregnant women. Listeria uses distinct tactics to breach the intestine and the placenta, using a protein called phosphoinositide-3 kinase (PI3-K), according to a study published in The Journal of Experimental Medicine.
However the latest research from the Children of the 90s project has shown no link between fish consumption and average birthweight once other factors have been taken into account. There was also no evidence of increased frequency of premature birth in mothers not eating fish.
By proposing $1.65 billion for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria "in his 2014 budget request to Congress, President Obama gave the world the next big shove it needs to control and end AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria," Kolleen Bouchane, director of ACTION, writes in the Huffington Post's "The Big Push" blog.
A new study published yesterday in Alzheimer's & Dementia: the Journal of the Alzheimer's Association, found a link for the first time between abnormalities in the mechanism of glucose breakdown in the brain and the severity of tangles and amyloid plaques in the brain, as well as the commencement of visible symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.
