The Francis Crick Institute has signed a new research agreement with global biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. The five-year initiative will see researchers from AstraZeneca and the Crick collaborate on early-stage research that could translate into new treatments and health innovations in the future.
In a study published today by Nature, researchers at Joslin Diabetes Center used a microscopic worm (C. elegans) to identify a new path that could lead to drugs to slow aging and the chronic diseases that often accompany it-and might even lead to better cosmetics.
Alfred Z. Abuhamad, MD, president of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM), presented the esteemed Presidential Recognition Awards to Harvey L. Nisenbaum, MD, and Richard Hoppmann, MD, at the 2012 AIUM Annual Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. This award honors exceptional service to the AIUM and to the ultrasound community. Its recipients are extremely active in contributing to the growth and development of medical ultrasound.
A major new study, "Red Meat Consumption and Mortality" concludes that red meat is associated with a thirteen percent increased risk of death and substitution of other healthy protein sources for red meat lowers mortality risk, with nuts being the top choice. Over half the nuts eaten in the US are peanuts and they have more protein than any other nut.
