The United Nations paints a grim picture of the health situation in Zambia. One in every six adults in Zambia is living with HIV, life expectancy at birth is below 40 years and 630,000 children in Zambia are AIDS orphans.
Approximately 600,000 hysterectomies are performed in the United States annually to treat benign disorders of the pelvis. More than two-thirds are performed through an abdominal incision. In an evidence-based position statement published online today in The Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, the AAGL, a medical specialty society of over 5,000 gynecologic surgeons, advocates the practice of performing these procedures vaginally or laparoscopically in a minimally invasive manner, thus reducing morbidity and facilitating a faster recovery period.
For the study, 407 image-guided kidney lesion biopsies were performed in 377 patients using either CT, ultrasound, or a combination of both to guide a small needle through the skin of the patient to take a sample of the lesion.
As American Diabetes Month approaches, leading experts like Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, DPM, stress the importance of foot care, especially for those with diabetes. People with diabetes are at a greater risk of developing dry skin due to nerve damage.
