Centhaquine, a new medication to treat patients who have severe blood or fluid loss, significantly improved outcomes and reduced death rate when added to standard of care, compared to standard care alone, according to preliminary research to be presented at the American Heart Association's Resuscitation Science Symposium 2020.
The study was categorized as a primary prevention trial for coronary heart disease, although the fact that mean age at recruitment was 63 years was not given enough importance at that time. WHI investigators concluded that hormone therapy (HT) was not cardioprotective, and, in fact, its riskbenefit ratio did not favor the use of postmenopausal hormones for prevention of chronic diseases.
Donna Wilcock of the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging is the lead investigator on a recently-funded project exploring the links between Alzheimer's disease and Down Syndrome. Elizabeth Head, also of Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, is a co-investigator on the project.
