Scientists are pushing ahead building 'organ-on-chips', small chips with human cells, which are useful, for example, for studying cancerous metastases in the bloodstream or the development of scar tissue, or for testing the effect of drugs or food outside a human body.
UAB researchers developed a new vehicle to release proteins with therapeutic effects. The vehicles are known as "bacteria inclusion bodies", stable insoluble nanoparticles which are found normally in recombinant bacteria.
ChromaDex Corporation, a world leader in phytochemical reference standards, botanical reference materials and contract analytical testing services, has signed an exclusive marketing agreement with the Association for African Medicinal Plants Standards (AAMPS) to sell and market the AAMPS African botanical standards and the African Herbal Pharmacopoeia.
As the body ages, the physical effects are notable; wrinkles in the skin appear, physical exertion becomes harder. But there are also less visible processes going on. Inside aging brains there is another phenomenon at work, which may contribute to age-related brain defects.
