The first European study into the burden of non-tuberculosis mycobacterium pulmonary disease (NTM-PD), published today in the European Respiratory Journal, has revealed that both the 3-year all-cause mortality rate and financial burden for patients with the disease is almost four times higher than a matched control group.
A multi-institutional team led by investigators from Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center has published a study that provides new insight into genetic changes that make some forms of glioblastoma, the most common type of primary brain cancer, more aggressive than others and explains why they may not respond to certain therapies. The research was led by senior author Eric C. Holland, MD, PhD,-an MSKCC surgeon, researcher and the Director of the Brain Tumor Center-and was published in the October 1 issue of the journal Genes & Development.
Researchers at the University of Kentucky's Sanders-Brown Center on Aging (SBCoA) recently screened the first participant in the world for what is known as the AHEAD 3-45 study.
A new study forecasts when climate factors such as temperature, humidity and rainfall will match at geographically distant airline departure and destination points, which could help to shuffle invasive species, and the diseases they may carry, across the globe along existing flight routes.
