Xencor, Inc. presented results Sunday at the 50th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Hematology from pre-clinical studies evaluating XmAb 5574, a monoclonal antibody engineered using Xencor's XmAb Fc technologies that targets the antigen CD19.
In a study published online in advance of print in Stem Cells, Tufts researchers report that the STAT3 gene regulates cancer stem cells in brain cancer. Cancer stem cells have many characteristics of stem cells and are thought to be the cells that drive tumor formation. The researchers report that STAT3 could become a target for cancer therapy, specifically in Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), a type of malignant and aggressive brain tumor.
It is common for patients initially diagnosed with lung cancer to have the cancer spread to sites like the liver, brain and bone. One of the most frequent sites of metastases is the bone, with an estimated 30 to 40 percent of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) developing bone loss.
One in four people who survive a stroke or transient ischemic attack suffer from symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder within the first year post-event, and one in nine experience chronic PTSD more than a year later.
Scientists have developed a new test that can help identify people who are likely to develop hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer. The approach uses a simple blood test to check for the patient's previous exposure to certain viruses.
