In an article published in the current issue of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, researchers from the University of Bologna and Bern analyze the state of biological research in mental disorders.
A new study shows that caregivers of dementia patients who must make the difficult decision to place their relatives into institutionalized care get no relief from depression and anxiety, and in fact suffer additional emotional trauma following their decision.
Drug ads often warn of serious side effects, from nausea and bleeding to blindness, even death. New research suggests that, rather than scaring consumers away, these warnings can improve consumers' opinions and increase product sales when there is a delay between seeing the ad and deciding to buy or consume the product.
The Hill Healthwatch: "The Department of Health and Human Services did not violate federal prohibitions on publicity and propaganda with its health reform advertising and technical assistance contracts, the Government Accountability Office said Tuesday. The lawmakers requested the office's legal opinion about the ads and HHS's contracts with MIT economist Jonathan Gruber.
