The Office for Civil Rights at HHS today announced an agreement to help ensure that children in Washington State in need of welfare and protective services will not be segregated based on race, color, or national origin. OCR, along with the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and HHS' Administration for Children and Families, signed the voluntary resolution agreement to provide equal access to care needed by one of Washington's more vulnerable populations.
During the 2012-2013 school year, 38 Chicago Public School (CPS) students and staff were given emergency medication for potentially life-threatening allergic reactions.
New research ties preparative procedures and complications associated with blood or bone marrow transplantation (stem cell transplantation, SCT) with diminished sexual health in both men and women who have undergone the lifesaving procedure. Study data, published online today in Blood, the Journal of the American Society of Hematology, confirm chronic graft-versus-host disease, a serious complication that occurs when donor cells attack the recipient's cells, as a potential source of sexual dysfunction and are the first to demonstrate an association between total body irradiation and sexual dysfunction in men.
Findings from the latest Minnesota Adult Tobacco Survey (MATS) show that Minnesota is continuing to make progress in reducing tobacco use. Minnesota's adult smoking rate has declined to 14.4 percent, the lowest rate ever recorded in the state and a significant decrease from 2010, the last time the rate was measured.
