Chronic pain is an epidemic. One in four Americans suffers from chronic pain due to disease—including cancer and HIV—and the medications used to treat those diseases. One reason for the persistence of chronic pain may be that the patient's central nervous system creates abnormal connections or improves connections that shouldn't be strengthened, explains Susan G. Dorsey, PhD, RN, co-director of the School of Nursing's Center of Excellence in Disorders of Neuroregulatory Function.
Neuralgic Amyotrophy is a painful disorder of the peripheral nervous system. This heritable disease causes prolonged acute attacks of pain in the shoulder or arm, followed by temporary paralysis.
Provectus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a development-stage oncology and dermatology biopharmaceutical company, reports continued progress in its compassionate use program for PV-10. The program currently has enrolled more than 40 patients, ten of whom are expanded access patients from the company's Phase 2 trial of PV-10 for metastatic melanoma, as well as more than 30 new patients.
