Many of those eligible for Medicaid before passage of the health law but not enrolled have signed up as a result of the publicity about getting insured, adding to states' costs.
Mayo Clinic researchers working in concert with other North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG) investigators have found that administering epoetin alfa for anemia once every three weeks to patients with anemia and cancer, instead of the traditional weekly epoetin treatments, maintains similar levels of red blood cells.
A new study showed that antibiotics are more effective than previously thought in the treatment of acute ear infection (namely acute otitis media) in young children. However, half of the children became better without antibiotics. Expectedly, antibiotics caused more adverse events. Antibiotics should be used only when the diagnosis of acute ear infection is certain.
Older people experiencing low-level social capital are more likely to suffer from mental ill-health and this risk group should have access to initiatives that empower social networking and a maintained rich social life. Researcher Anna Forsman at the Nordic School of Public Health NHV have examined how mental health can be promoted and mental health problems be prevented among older adults by using psychosocial initiatives.
Isis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced today that it has earned a $1.5 million milestone payment from GSK related to the advancement of the program to develop ISIS-GSK4Rx to treat an undisclosed ocular disease.
