Exactech, Inc., a developer and producer of bone and joint restoration products for hip, knee, shoulder, spine and biologic materials, announced today that the company has acquired Brighton Partners, Inc., the sole source supplier of the direct compression molded polyethylene bearings used exclusively in Exactech's flagship product, the Optetrak® knee replacement system.
A molecule already implicated in a number of diverse cellular functions can suppress the growth of tumors in the liver, a Mayo Clinic Cancer Center study has found. Its name is IQGAP1, and when the molecule is active in the cells that surround a tumor cell, this "tumor microenvironment" becomes less hospitable to cancer growth. When the molecule is deficient, cancer thrives.
Diabetes affects roughly 30 million Americans, and is one of the leading causes of disability and mortality. As a result, organizations such as the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Endocrine Society and American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) have made efforts to move away from the one size fits all management of diabetes.
Rakesh Pilkar, Ph.D., a post-doctoral fellow in Human Performance and Engineering Research at Kessler Foundation, was awarded a R03, $153,000 grant by the National Institutes of Health to study the response levels to function electrical stimulation (FES) interventions in the rehabilitation of stroke patients-titled, "Identification of Responders to the FES Interventions in Stroke Populations".
