Miami-Dade County Mayor Alvarez has eliminated all funding for community-based organizations (CBOs) for FY 2009-10, effective October 1, 2009. Officials have recorded more than 70 cholera cases in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince and fear for a substantial rise in numbers if the epidemic continues.
