Study: Text-messaging strangers reduces need for pain relief during minor surgeries

Patients who text messaged a stranger just before minor surgeries required less supplemental pain relief than patients receiving standard therapy or distraction techniques, according to a recently published study conducted by researchers at RTI International, Cornell University and LaSalle Hospital (Montreal, QC).

A new animal study published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease indicates that a diet including walnuts may have a beneficial effect in reducing the risk, delaying the onset, slowing the progression of, or preventing Alzheimer's disease.

New T cell engineering approach can improve success rate of immune-cell therapies

Clinical trials using patients' own immune cells to target tumors have yielded promising results. However, this approach usually works only if the patients also receive large doses of drugs designed to help immune cells multiply rapidly, and those drugs have life-threatening side effects. Now a team of MIT engineers has devised a way to deliver the necessary drugs by smuggling them on the backs of the cells sent in to fight the tumor. That way, the drugs reach only their intended targets, greatly reducing the risk to the patient.

PURE Bioscience qualifies for Russell 3000, Russell 2000 Indexes

PURE Bioscience today announced that it has been added to the Russell 3000® and Russell 2000® Indexes, which measure the performance of the largest U.S. companies based on total market capitalization. The Russell 2000 is the smaller 2,000 companies within the larger index. The annual reconstitution of the Russell Indexes occurred on Friday, June 25th.
