37 states, D.C. advance plans to improve health outcomes for dual eligibles

The states and D.C. are proposing demonstration projects to better coordinate and therefore improve care for an estimated 9 million people who fall into this category. States would receive a share of any resulting savings.

Genetically modified tomatoes rich in anthocyanins

Researchers from the John Innes Centre in Norwich, Great Britain, in collaboration with other European centres participating to the FLORA project, have obtained genetically modified tomatoes rich in anthocyanins, a category of antioxidants belonging to the class of flavonoids. These tomatoes, added to the diet of cancer-prone mice, showed a significant protective effect by extending the mice lifespan. The research has been published in the 26 October issue of Nature Biotechnology.

Lipid Sciences' selective delipidation process demonstrates enhanced ability in removing cholesterol from cells

Lipid Sciences announced today that researchers have successfully used the Company's proprietary "selective delipidation" process to create a modified form of HDL ("good cholesterol") that is known to be more effective in reverse cholesterol transport, the body's natural process for removing lipids from arterial plaque.
