Lenvatinib therapy improves survival in patients with advanced radioiodine-refractory thyroid cancer

In a pivotal Phase III study led by researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, the oral anti-angiogenic therapy lenvatinib has shown dramatic improvement in progression-free survival in patients with advanced radioiodine-refractory thyroid cancer.

Medpac recommendation: Adjust Medicare's hospital inpatient payments to recoup overpayments

Modern Healthcare: "The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission is recommending that Congress further adjust Medicare's hospital inpatient payments over three years to recover overpayments that have resulted from recent documentation and coding changes." MedPAC also "called for the same recommendation as last year: to increase payment rates for inpatient and outpatient hospital services at the full rate of inflation, concurrent with the implementation of a quality incentives program.

Secure storage has no impact on incidence of pesticide self-poisoning, study finds

The first study, by lead author Professor David Gunnell at the University of Bristol, is a randomized trial in 180 villages in Sri Lanka which found that secure storage had no impact on rates of self-poisoning or suicide, and the second is a review of global policies on highly hazardous pesticides which conclude that bans are the most effective way of reducing suicides.
