Majority of Americans believe that "side deals" are harming real healthcare reform
The Greenlining Institute (www.greenlining.org) today reacted to a survey conducted by the Lombardo Consulting Group which shows that Americans are losing confidence in the health care reform process (available here.) The national poll found that an overwhelming number of poll respondents believe that "side deals" between Washington decision makers and the pharmaceutical industry have "seriously compromised efforts to enact real reform of the health care system."
Cephalon acquires Mepha
Cephalon, Inc. announced that it has today completed its previously announced acquisition of Mepha, the Swiss-based pharmaceutical company. As a result of the acquisition, Mepha is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cephalon. The purchase price paid at closing, inclusive of certain closing adjustments, was CHF 662.4 million (or approximately US$615.4 million). The purchase price is also subject to further post-closing working capital and net debt adjustments.
AMA awards unique CPT code for Cylex' ImmuKnow assay
Cylex Incorporated® announced today that the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT Editorial Panel approved the creation of new CPT coding based on the uniqueness, clinical value and widespread use of ImmuKnow, and the fact that existing CPT codes insufficiently captured all steps and costs of testing.
Alarming COVID study indicates long-term loss of gray matter and other brain tissue
In a research paper recently uploaded to the preprint server medRxiv* by Prof. Gwenaëlle Douaud et al. (June 15th, 2021), participants that had taken part in a brain study prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic were invited back for a series of follow-up tests, revealing significant losses of grey matter surrounding the olfactory and gustatory system in those that had been infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
