NICE recommends REMICADE, HUMIRA and SIMPONI therapies for patients with ulcerative colitis

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has issued its Final Appraisal Document (FAD) recommending REMICADE (infliximab), HUMIRA (adalimumab) and SIMPONI (golimumab), within their marketing authorisations, as options for treating moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC) in adults whose disease has responded inadequately to conventional therapy including corticosteroids and mercaptopurine or azathioprine, or who cannot tolerate, or have medical contraindications for, such therapies.

Orthovita's PMA supplement for new collagen processing facility receives FDA approval

Orthovita, Inc., an orthobiologics and biosurgery company, reported today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Orthovita's PMA supplement for a new collagen processing facility in Malvern, Pennsylvania. Orthovita will use the new facility to process the highly purified form of collagen used in its VITAGELâ„¢ Surgical Hemostat product. VITAGEL is a composite liquid hemostat used in surgical procedures as an adjunct to hemostasis when control of bleeding by ligature or conventional procedures is ineffective or impractical.
