Study on disparities in survival of cancer patients from different socioeconomic groups

A new analysis from Canada has found that cancer patients from poorer communities have a greater chance of dying prematurely than individuals from more affluent backgrounds even though cancer stage at time of diagnosis is similar across socioeconomic groups. Published early online in CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society, the study indicates that efforts are needed to understand and reduce disparities in the survival of cancer patients from different socioeconomic groups.

First patient enrolled in pancreatic cancer clinical trial

The Henry Ford Cancer Institute announced today it has enrolled the first patient in a new clinical trial to test the effectiveness of using precise, higher dose MRI-guided radiation therapy to treat pancreatic cancer.

Administrators at the Los Angeles-based hospital say Xerox Corporation's DocuShare Enterprise Content Management Platform allows doctors to access records in seconds – not hours – to efficiently monitor and serve the more than 17,000 patients the hospital sees annually.

Second-quarter results enable Meridian achieve a 3-year compound annual growth rate of 72.8 percent

Meridian announced today strong results for the second quarter of 2009, with this being the second consecutive quarter of exceptional revenue and earnings. These results will undoubtedly help Meridian and its parent company, Visionary Integration Professionals (VIP), end 2009 with an exceptional three-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR). Between 2008 and 2005, Meridian and VIP posted a CAGR of 72.8 percent.
