Researchers use gene therapy to reduce the development of epileptic seizures

For the first time, researchers have inhibited the development of epilepsy after a brain insult in animals. By using gene therapy to modify signaling pathways in the brain, neurology researchers found that they could significantly reduce the development of epileptic seizures in rats.

Lonza, Benitec partner to develop scalable manufacturing process for AAV-based viral gene therapies

Lonza Houston, Inc., a global leader in biological, cell and viral gene therapy manufacturing, and Benitec Biopharma, a clinical stage biotechnology company commercializing a patented gene-silencing technology, DNA-directed RNA interference (ddRNAi), today announced that they have entered into a Manufacturing Services Agreement to develop a scalable manufacturing process for Benitec's ddRNAi-based, Adeno-Associated Virus (AAV)-delivered products intended for therapeutic use in humans.

YM BioSciences expands CYT387 Phase I/II clinical trial for myelofibrosis in five sites

YM BioSciences Inc., today reported that the Phase I/II clinical trial for its orally available JAK1/JAK2 inhibitor, CYT387, in patients with myelofibrosis has been expanded to five sites. Of the additional sites, the Stanford Cancer Center (Stanford, California) under Principal Investigator Jason Gotlib, MD has already commenced enrolling patients.

LINX Reflux Management System reduces medical costs for GERD and other health problems

Treatment with Ethicon's LINX Reflux Management System reduced medical costs more than laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, a more invasive anti-reflux surgery, and more than offsets the slightly higher cost of the procedure, according to a new study presented here today at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
